Poverty in India |
According to 2011 Population Census of India, there are about 21.92 percent of total Indian population lives below the poverty line. In simple terms, 22 out of 100 Indians are not able to meet their daily needs.
In terms of states, Goa has lowest poverty rate at 5.09, followed by Kerala at 7.05 whereas Chattisgarh has largest number of people living under the poverty. It is followed by Bihard with 33.70 and Odisha with 32.60 percent of populace living under the poverty. In terms of Union Territories, Andaman and Nicobar Islands shows mere poverty rate of 1.00 percent whereas Dadra and Nagar Haveli has largest number of people living under these poor conditions.
