It has influenced the past of Kerala in many ways and protected the state from major political invasion till 18th century. It is the source of all major rivers in Kerala and its passes connects Kerala to its neighbour Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Anamudi peak (8842 ft) is the highest point in the whole of Western Ghat and can be proudly seen in Idukki district of Kerala.
Some of these mountain peaks also hold religious values such as Brahmagiri is the home of Thirunelli temple and Sabri hills are known for the Sastha shrine.
