It refers to the Indochina region which include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand (Siam) and Vietnam; and the Malay states comprising of Brunei, East Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore; and a part of Southern China.
The term was popularized by the Sir Hugh Charles Clifford with his book also titled, Farther India.
It also correponds to the term "Greater India" used for the Southeast and South Asian region where one could see the visible marks of Indian culture.
