Agroclimatic Zones of Telangana |
The state of Telangana falls under the Agriclimatic Zone 10 of India, namely Southern Plateau and Hills. However, the state can be further classified into three more zones at regional level, 1. Northern Telangana, 2. Central Telangana and 3. Southern Telangana.
Zone I
Northern Telangana Zone
Districts covered: Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla and Karimnagar
Annual Rainfall: 860-1190 mm
Temperature: 14-37 °C
Major Crops: Rice, sugarcane, jowar, pulses, maize, cotton, groundnut, turmeric and chillies
Soil: Red soils, Black soils, Calcereous Soil
Regional Agricultural Research Station: Jagtial
Zone II
Central Telangana Zone
Districts covered: Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Jangaon, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Mahabubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam
Annual Rainfall: 780-1210 mm
Temperature: 16-39 °C
Major Crops: Cotton, rice, maize, greengram, mango, sugarcane and chillies
Soil: Mostly Red soils
Regional Agricultural Research Station: Warangal
Zone III
Southern Telangana Zone
Districts covered: Vikarabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool and Jogulamba Gadwal
Annual Rainfall: 600-850 mm
Temperature: 16-38 °C
Major Crops: Sorghum, cotton, rice, redgram, sesame maize, castor, safflower and groundnut
Soil: Red soils, alluvial soils
