Saraswati Samman (List of Winners 1991--2017) |
The award is named after Hindu Goddess of Learning Saraswati and consists cash prize of 15 lakh rupees, a plaque, and a citation.
Candidates are selected from literary works published in the past ten yers by a panel that include scholars and past awardees.
The first Sarawati Samman was given to Harivanshrai Bachhan for his four volume autobiographical work: Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Needa Ka Nirman Phir, Basere Se Door and Dashdwar se Sopan Tak in 1991.
Balamani Amma became first female writer to win Saraswati Samman in 1995 for her poetry collection Nivedyam.
K Shiva Reddy has won Sarawati Samman 2018 for his work Pakkaki Ottigilite.
